Three steps

How to sharpen
without the stress.

1

Set your angle

Most kitchen and outdoor knives run 18-20°. Fillet blades sit closer to 15°. Each WorkSharp has the guides built in.

2

Pull through, even strokes

Light pressure. Let the abrasive do the work. Five to ten passes a side is usually all you need for a touch-up.

3

Strop and test

Finish with the leather strop side or a few passes on the fine grit. Slice a tomato. Should fall through, no pressure.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

Will I ruin my knife?
No. Every sharpener we stock uses angle guides so you can't drift off-bevel. Light pressure, consistent strokes, and you'll put a better edge on your blade than you'd get from a pull-through sharpener.
Which one for filleting and hunting knives?
Fillet blades and slim outdoor knives sit at a flatter 15° angle. The Precision Adjust or Whetstone Sharpener handle that range easily. The Pivot is fine for touch-ups but isn't built for re-bevelling a flexy fillet.
How often should I sharpen?
Touch-up every few weeks if you cook often. A full sharpen once or twice a year is plenty for an everyday kitchen knife. Hunting or fillet blades after every season. If your blade tears tomato skin instead of slicing it, it's time.
Does it work on my Iron Gate knife?
Yes. Every Iron Gate blade is ground to a consistent bevel that any of these sharpeners can hold. The Precision Adjust and Angle Set are our pick if you want the most repeatable result on an Iron Gate.
What if it's not for me?
