Why we make things the slow way.
G'day,
I never set out to start a company. I started making a few for mates and family because I couldn't find anything I actually wanted to own. Something that felt right in the hand, looked like it belonged to someone, and wasn't going to end up in the bin in five years.
Word got around. More people asked. In 2023 it became Iron Gate, and three years on there's a small crew of us in a workshop in Anna Bay, on the coast in Port Stephens.
We still do it the way we started. Proper steel. Handles in Aussie timbers, antler and TruStone, so no two are quite the same. Every piece is hand finished here and checked before it goes out the door. Then we put your name on it, free, because once something has a name on it, it's an heirloom worth keeping.
I'll be straight with you: what we make isn't cheap. It's priced for what goes into it, and for the fact that we'll look after it for the rest of your life. Send it back any time for a sharpen or a fix and we'll sort it out.
The best part of this job is the photos people send us. A Sunday roast. The first dinner in a new house. A dad carving at Christmas with something that'll one day be his son's. That's what we're building. Not more stuff. Things that get passed on.
Thanks for having a look. If you've got a question, flick us a message. A real person in the workshop will answer it.
Iron sharpens iron.
P.S. Every piece we make carries free resharpening and repairs for life. You just cover the postage back to us. No receipt needed.
